The entertainment world has lost a giant with the passing of Zia Mohyeddin on Monday, at the age of 91. The legendary Pakistani-British actor, producer, director, poet, and television broadcaster was known for his services in the theatre and literary recitations, earning him a legendary status in Pakistan. 


Born on June 20, 1931 in Faisalabad, Zia Mohyeddin was trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London from 1953 to 1956, where he made his West End debut in the play "A Passage to India." He made his film debut in 1962 with the role of Tafas in "Lawrence of Arabia," and went on to make numerous TV and film appearances over his 47-year career in the United Kingdom. 



As well as being a successful actor, Zia Mohyeddin was also a prolific broadcaster, compere, and elocutionist with a career spanning over six decades. He was the chief executive and founder of the National Academy of Performing Arts, and was awarded the Hilal Imtiaz in 2012 for his contributions to the industry. 



The passing of Zia Mohyeddin has been met with condolences from political dignitaries, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Arif Alvi, who paid tribute to the late actor's legacy and the impact he had on mentoring actors and promoting the soft image of Pakistan. 



Zia Mohyeddin's contributions to the entertainment world go beyond his work in film, as he was also a noted stage actor and one of the world's foremost reciters of Urdu prose and poetry. He hosted a popular TV talk show in Pakistan in the late 1960s and was a regular broadcaster on radio and television, further cementing his place as one of Pakistan's greatest cultural ambassadors. 



The funeral prayers for Zia Mohyeddin were offered in Karachi's Defence Phase 4, and he was laid to rest at a cemetery in Defence Housing Authority, Phase 8. His death has left a void in the entertainment world that will be difficult to fill, and he will be deeply missed by his admirers.
