Ravindra Jadeja Fined for Code of Conduct Violation in India vs Australia Test"

Indian all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja, has been fined 25% of his match fee after breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the first Test against Australia in Nagpur. The incident occurred in the 46th over, when Jadeja applied a cream to a swelling on his finger without seeking permission from the umpires, leading to accusations of ball tampering.

The ICC stated in a press release that the all-rounder was found guilty of violating Article 2.20 of the Code of Conduct, which relates to conduct that goes against the spirit of the game. The match referee, Andy Pycroft, imposed one demerit point on Jadeja's disciplinary record, and the player admitted the offense and accepted the proposed sanctions, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.

The cream was applied purely for medical purposes, and did not change the condition of the ball, and thus did not breach Clause 41.3 of the ICC playing conditions. The umpires, Nitin Menon and Richard Illingworth, along with third umpire Michael Gough and fourth umpire KN Ananthapadmanabhan, leveled the charges against the all-rounder.

Level 1 breaches carry a penalty of an official reprimand, with a maximum fine of 50% of the player's match fee and one to two demerit points. Despite the fine, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin took just over two hours to dismantle the Australian team and lead India to a crushing innings and 132-run victory in the first Test.

The second Test of the four-match series is set to begin on Friday in New Delhi.
